Designer’s statement-Meudon la Forêt
He won the competition for the new cultural center in Meudon-la-Foret, Serero Architects has designed a building surrounded by a concrete shell organic.
Windows derived from tree canopy-Meudon la Forêt:
The project is inspired by nature and in particular the tree, not in merely symbolic, but in his deep connection with the architecture: the relationship between the structure and staffing, including redundancy and optimization, strength andfragility. The interaction between the environment and the minimum volumes of existing buildings designed by architect Pouillon F. influenced the course of our primary focus. The building follows the grid of the neighborhood, while developing a close relationship with space. The project is organized around a central core created by a 300-seat theater. Your device endowment rises above the room to reveal spaces within and traffic. Trapezoidal windows are placed throughout the building around to avoid the traditional “black box” effect of a theater located in the center of an urban environment. In contrast with the single window used by F.Pouillon of all households in the neighborhood, we have designed a system of open windows, formed, whose geometry is derived from the tree.
Centralize spaces without closing them-Meudon la Forêt:
Our goal is to create a high quality, hand open in the urban environment and the other has a strong identity. The periphery of the building has two levels with reception areas and meeting rooms, ground floor, offices and art studios above. This project is designed from the inside out, resulting in manipulation of the earth and the ceiling defining the space. The building is cantilevered over the lobby, the place to protect a large glass surface of the sun and rain.
Studio spaces flooded with natural light-Meudon la Forêt:
All circulation spaces and reception are in much natural light, either by the curtain wall of the reception room, or sheds on the roof of the studies, which play an important role in defining the spaces the interior of the building. The variation in the size of the wall opening and window indicates a lighting quality foliage. The interior lighting of the major changes throughout the day hall. At the end of the day, the lamps installed in the sheds, which are connected to sensitive cells gradually overcome the lack of natural light. Offices and work spaces are lit by multiple window openings free form allowing each workspace to have one or two points of view of the outdoor spaces and gardens.
An intelligent skin-Meudon la Forêt:
The building is clad in a white skin of the specific architecture that will incorporate pieces of gravel and limestone of Meudon, in its composition. Designed as a performative skin, the roof is an important part of this project, and includes devices to control light and heat the air inside the building. On the south side shed roof, photovoltaic panels will be installed to collect part of the electricity consumed by the building.
