Many airports are large and colossal architectural wonders, but they leave behind a lot of carbon footprints. It seems unnecessary to build such huge structures at the expense of the environment, if it comes from the airport itself or airplanes. The huge amounts of CO2 emissions do not bother at all. However, these days, designers are going green and are planning and construction of green airports Building that reduce emissions and are environmentally friendly as well. Here are five examples of green airports built or are in process of construction throughout the world that are amazing architectural structures outside of work in a responsible manner.
1. Kuwait International Airport
The Kuwait International Airport is renovated and refurbished by Fosters & Partners, who are also designing the new headquarters of Apple called “spaceship”! This chic new airport would be composed of technology state-of-the-art and more space with its brilliant design that is inspired by traditional Arab styles to give it a Middle Eastern touch! The design includes three main wings similar devices which operate as the basis for all flights. Many point is placed on the cooling, that Kuwait is a country extremely hot. Therefore, the windows of the airport will be glazed to filter the radiation and provide enough natural light to illuminate the airport. The solar panels will be placed on the roof of the airport to generate electricity to power the device. The designers of this amazing airport working to achieve a LEED Gold certification for this design. The Kuwait International Airport should have an annual passenger traffic of over 13 million passengers and the airport has the capacity to handle over 50 million passengers with its ambitious expansion plans!
2. Malé International Airport
The Malé International Airport is a beautiful work of architecture and was designed and proposed by designers and planners ADPI. The airport is located near Male, the capital of the Maldives and its design would certainly make a symbolic structure. ADPI, the designer of this airport is one of the premier engineering and architectural organizations worldwide. This innovative new design for the Male International Airport would reflect the beauty and elegance of the country and would be an iconic structure because of its durability, efficiency, safety, security, customer service, the operational excellence that is in part with some of the most prestigious international airports. The airport will be like as it appears on the horizon like a ship with sails spread open by the wind. However, if viewed from the view as the crow flies, the airport looks like an archipelago. Bamboo strips are used to support the roof which is of local origin of the Maldives. Since this airport would be receiving the LEED Silver certification, it is environmentally friendly as it incorporates the best environmental practices such as energy management, water directions, sustainability in design and so on. The airport also allows the use of SWAC (sea water conditioning) in which the cold deep seawater is used for cooling the airport instead of air conditioning
3. Heathrow Airport
Heathrow Airport is regarded as the busiest airport in the world in terms of international passenger numbers it has received. Whoever was at Heathrow was probably an idea of the chaos and the rapid movement of what is happening there. Heathrow is owned and operated by BAA, which also recently launched a major renovation project worth 4.8 billion pounds for the renovation and restructuring of Terminal 2 and busy making it less clutter. The new terminal design is by Foster & Partners, who put in a proposal for solar energy, airport terminal extremely effective that would reduce carbon emissions by 40% compared to the terminal structure present. The airport would reduce energy consumption because it would appeal to natural light and also use solar energy via solar panels on the roof to power the terminal. The mechanisms of heating and cooling of the airport, however, would be partly powered by renewable energy sources. According to the designers, the new terminal at Heathrow would provide 185,000 square meters of which construction will occur in two phases. The first phase is due to be completed by the year 2013, while the second building will also function as a bridge connecting the first terminal to the second. The two phases would be completed in 2019 and would be able to handle passenger traffic of 30 million annually!
4. Queen Alia International Airport
The Queen Alia International Airport is another airport in the solar energy that was designed by the renowned firm Foster & Partners who will provide the airport with a design that can be extended without any disturbance to the functioning of the airport on a 25-year period. The airport will be completed this year and have the capacity to handle nearly 9 million passengers annually – three times what it manages to present! The design will see a new terminal structure that have pools of water in their courses to reflect natural light into the building. The covered roof of the airport was inspired by the shape of palm trees that allows natural light to filter through to illuminate the airport. In addition to saving energy by tapping the solar energy, this airport will also collect rainwater with its state-of-the-art mechanisms to collect rainwater.
5. Floating airport for San Diego
San Diego is probably the only city that has a unique floating airport that would be powered by sustainable energy sources. A new airport is precisely the need of San Diego for many years now that this is full of congestion because it serves three million passengers. However, due to space constraints, the Ocean Work Development plans on using the Pacific Ocean as a basis for the construction of this airport unique floating! This ambitious project would cost $ 20 billion for the enforcement of rights than an airport to occupy 40,000 square miles of the Pacific Ocean from the federal government! The airport would be permanently moored in the ocean, but would still be floating. The top of the superstructure would function as the airport as he would be 200 million square feet in the ocean that could serve as a rental space for various areas of free trade, restaurants and hotels. The airport would be powered by ocean waves and wind. The airport hopes to be connected via a light rail subway tunnel that crosses a floating!
