Solar Decathlon 2013: New Teams! New Location!
We have never been more excited to start with a U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon. In addition to welcoming 20 new college teams and hundreds of new students in our 2013 decathletes the contest, announcing a new site: the Orange County Great Park, Irvine, California. This will be a scene worthy ofdisplay devices for energy efficiency, solar power houses in the world.
With each competition, the entry in the Solar Decathlon is more difficult. In 2013, we saw twice as many proposals as we could accept, and all were well written and compelling in its own right. We are very pleased with the caliber of the 20 new computers. They are a dedicated group of passionate full of ideas and raring to go. We can not wait to see the final design!
The Orange County Great Park is an awesome place to host the Solar Decathlon competition and exhibition. This is the site of the former Marine Corps Air StationEl Toro, including the city of Irvine is transformed into sustainable family leisure park. The park has a paved runway on which we build our solar village, whichshould set-up for easier equipment while providing an enjoyable experience for visitors.
