Vissershok Container Classroom – Tsai Design Studio Architecture

Vissershok Container Classroom: A boon for the less fortunate children. Elementary school is a rural school Vissershok, assigned to the group of children deprived of people living in the city of the rarity of the hit at the name of Du Noon.Woolworths, in partnership with Safmarine and AfriSam transforms a forty-foot container in a classroom of elementary school, located in the hills of Durbanville outside Cape Town. This project has found a platform through a design competition “Making a difference through design” of Woolworths. This introduces the design for students and in turn allows them to highlight their talents and see their work to life.

The program this year focused on providing a solution on how recycling container can be used to help with school resources. Marshaarn Brink, a class of 10 th winner of this contest. He joined the container with the outside on the jungle gym, they gave it a more playful and, finally, this concept has become a final design of Tsai Design Studio bearing in mind the circumstances of the sites and environmental factors .

This container is used as a classroom comfortable for twenty-five pupils in the morning and a library for every school in the afternoon. The shields large direct sunlight roof steel container and thus prevents too hot in summer is further cooled by cross ventilation that is achieved by the colored windows on both sides of the container. Steel frames also support the playground as part of the container. It also has a patio where students can sit and chat, but also acts as an amphitheater for school assemblies. The green wall dressed like a garden not only prevents the playing area to the south east winds, but also helps the school to benefit from fresh vegetables.

The container, besides being the most sustainable ecosystem of the school has made a remarkable difference in the lives of disadvantaged children.
